TAKE A TOUR OF BANNERMAN ISLAND

BANNERMAN CASTLE TRUST

The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. is a not-for-profit “Friends” organization of volunteers working with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The Trust is dedicated to bringing together resources and funding to stabilize the buildings on Pollepel Island.

The Trust’s mission is to raise awareness and educate the public and government organizations on the value and history of the island. The Trust raises funds for restoration, maintenance and preservation of the island structures and trails. The Trust works to make the island safe for volunteers and for the public to enjoy the island as an educational, cultural, historical and recreational facility promoting heritage tourism in the Hudson Valley.

We must raise funds to stabilize and prevent further damage to the castle. Attending a performance or event at Bannerman Castle is a fun and meaningful way to support the preservation efforts of Bannerman Island!

BANNERMAN'S ISLAND ARESENAL CATALOGUES

CREATED AND PRESENTED BY THOM JOHNSON

Thom Johnson, who has researched the history of Bannerman’s for over 50 years, has produced three volumes on Francis Bannerman VI, his business, and the arsenal he designed and built. Each volume has a cover that is based on the Bannerman catalogues, as was the design and presentation of the text and images. The first volume covers the Bannerman Catalogues, the second the history of the design and construction of the arsenal, and the history of the Trust, the third presents how Thom has used the site as an artist and teacher, and examples of the work of others who he has worked with. The three volumes are available separately, in a Bannerman style slip case, or as a deluxe hard bound edition.

$25 – $110 plus shipping and handling.

Incredible Tour!

The views and history of the location are incredible. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. We were given plenty of information and plenty of time to explore on our own. We never felt rushed, and really enjoyed the entire experience, even though it was a cold, rainy day when we went.

Awesome Experience!

First the boat ride from Newburgh was awesome, it’s been over 30 years since I’ve been on a boat. Loved the steps, trails, gardens and the history it provided. Imagine what it was like growing up there. Sad it’s not safe to get close to the warehouse but the design was Amazing as was the residence!

Great Place to Visit!

An extremely interesting place to visit! The tour included a lovely boat ride on the Hudson River and a guided tour of Pollepel Island and Bannerman's Castle. Unfortunately, we could not enter Bannerman's Castle due to the current fragile state of the castle. Bannerman's Castle is gradually deteriorating due to severe weather conditions. I highly suggest going soon because who knows what will be left of Bannerman's Castle in ten to twenty years from now.

A Fantastic Adventure!

We loved the Boat Ride from Newburgh NY and the tour guide was fantastic and being able to see the Castle and the grounds and the gardens was very historical. Even in the rain and cold it was well worth it! Yes there are 72 steps from the dock to the Castle it wasn't really that bad; the steps did not seem that steep.
